Karnataka government is likely to increase tax on alcohol

The state government is likely to increase the excise duty on all alcohol products to fund the implementation of five guarantee schemes.
It can be recalled that CM Siddaramaiah who is also the state finance minister has estimated Rs.59,000 crores requirement to implement the five guarantee schemes announced by the party ahead of the state assembly polls.
According to the sources, the state government proposed increasing the excise duty on alcohal products by 10% to 25%. This means liquor will become more costlier in the state.
If this increase is made beer cost is likely to go up by Rs.10 to Rs.20.
As expected the liqior lovers opposed the state governments move. They demanded no further exploitation of the consumers.
